This is not our first time
riding a camel or visiting the dessert, we already had our own
individual experiences of the Dubai dessert and its camel, but we never visited
the dessert and rode camel together so on our two weeks trip in Morocco we
decided to visit the dessert and spend the night in a Berber tent.
It’s actually the highlight of our trip, quite a unique experience spending our New Year's Eve in the Sahara desert, singing and listening to the Berber Music, sleeping in a tent under the cold starry sky (Yes it is very very cold! My furry jacket and the five thick blankets provided in our tent wasn’t enough!).
After
a long scenic drive from Fez and passing through Atlas Mountains we arrived to our
hotel in Merzouga - Ksar Merzouga Nomadic Camp,
this is a hotel/camp base; if you opt not to stay in the dessert they also have
some nice room available. We just parked our car in the hotel parking area and took
our backpack and valuable things with us. We arrived around 4PM just in time for sunset, we were welcome
by the locals in their traditional Berber Clothes playing some music, we chilled
at the pool had light snack and took off.

It was a bumpy
fun camel ride witnessing the beautiful sunset. When we got to camp we were
welcome by friendly locals guiding us to our room, put down our stuff and walk
around and climbed up the dunes.
The
next morning around as early as 7AM we decided to go back to the hotel, to
shower and have breakfast. Also, our body can’t take the cold weather anymore! Luckily
camels are already available as early as 6:30. Got back to the base camp hotel, showered had our breakfast then off to our next adventure!
