Planning Two Weddings in Two different Countries (Part 1 : U.S Wedding)

Cheers!

Richard and I are currently base in Ghana, West Africa. So can you just imagine how planning went on?

What I’m learning throughout this whole planning process is that you just have to do what’s right for you. We both agreed that we wanted to get married in the States and in the Philippines.
A simple ceremony and reception was done in Boston last June 4, 2016 and a second full ceremony (Chinese Tea Ceremony and wedding ceremony) reception or ‘wedding party’ will be in the Philippines in December. The priority for us is making sure everyone we cared about and is dearest to us could be at our wedding.

Planning both the U.S and Philippines wedding from Ghana has (on the whole) been easier than expected – the Internet makes things much more accessible from communicating with suppliers, payment via online transfer, so don’t feel too daunted by that if you decide to go that way, but just make sure you plan like a year prior to the wedding date for the Philippines.

For the U.S wedding we planned a month ahead of time. A simple ceremony and reception was done in Boston and what’s really making the ceremony even more special was it was Richard’s good friend Jimmy who is officiating the wedding attended by only close family members and friends. I was surprised how simple as possible a wedding can be in the states It’s not that complicated compare to the Philippines wedding.  Enumerating the stuff we did was:

1.   We just got Jimmy registered to be able to officiate or wedding then we went to the city hall to apply for the marriage license.

2.   Pre-wedding shoot. It’s always up to the couple when it comes to this, we decided to do one in the US and one in the Philippines. Memorabilia darling!

3.   Book a restaurant that can hold the number of people you want to invite. Do food tasting a week before the wedding and coordinate setup with their events manager. We got Blue Ginger as our venue for the wedding. It was a great venue that can hold up to 60 or more people. We decided to go for the deluxe four course entree menu which allows us  to customise  four kinds of appetiser ( Spring Rolls, Beef kebab, Shrimp Wanton and Tuna Poke)and entree selections of either Beef or Fish. Food was really good especially the appetizers.

4.   Reserve some flowers (bouquet and center piece) like a week before the wedding date. Just got the flowers from the nearest Flower shop forgot the name lol

5.   Reserve a cake. We got this beautiful Japanese cake from my Mother in laws friend at a good price!

6.   Set up an online wedding registry, prepare your invitation (if you can make it yourself much better, I made it myself) and send it out a month before the wedding.

7.   Get yourself a white dress. My dress traveled all the way from Philippines to the States lol

8.   Prepare wedding favors. I decided to giveaway some dried mangoes from the Philippines and Macaroons made in Boston and we put it in a small red paper bag.

9.  Find someone who can take good photo, we didn’t even have any Videographer, thats how simple our wedding was in the States lol We got my Mother in law’s student to take wedding photos for us, Thanks so much Eugene!

10. Lastly of course THE RINGS :)

And that’s it you are good to go after preparing all the above mentioned! I’m just so lucky to have a mother in law who is as O.C as I am when it comes to planning stuff, very organize! Thanks Mom for helping me organize things in that States while I was in Ghana.
